Under the direction of the Manager of Bereavement & Community Grief, performs a wide range of clinical activities with grieving families and coordinates services to adapt to clients’ needs in coping with the death of a loved one.

  • Formulates counseling objectives based on in-depth assessment and provide individual/family grief counseling.  Other forms of informal support can also be provided through telephone and e-mail contact with the bereaved.  
  • Completes documentation as dictated by organization policy and/or department.
  • Facilitates therapeutic bereavement support groups, conduct grief workshops and/or Camp Healing Powers.
  • Assists with training volunteers by presenting in the Volunteer Orientation program and the specialized bereavement training as well as precept volunteers assigned to the bereavement department or Camp Healing Powers.
  • Provides crisis intervention and emergency referrals to the bereaved as needed.
  • Responsible to relay all high risk, complex or potential abuse/neglect cases to manager, and when appropriate to the Department of Children and Families (DCF).
  • Attends yearly memorial service for Community Hospice survivors, as well as provides input to the therapeutic outcome of the service.
  • Acts as consultant to assigned IDG teams regarding grief issues and bereavement resources.
  • Collaborates as needed with the Communications, Community Hospice Foundation and Community Outreach departments as needed.
  • Follows policies and procedures of the department and organization.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Licenses/Certifications:  

  • Licensed as a clinical social worker or mental health counselor with at least three (3) years of experience providing therapy.
  • Current State of Florida driver’s license with driving record acceptable to   Hospice Northeast insurance carrier, and reliable transportation.

Qualifications:

Education/Experience:

Any combination of education and experience that would provide required skills and knowledge for successful performance would be qualifying.

Typical qualifications would be equivalent to:

  • Master’s degree in social work or counseling from an accredited       program.
  • Minimum five (5) years clinical practice/direct service experience with       individuals and families.
  • Strong organizational skills and/or project management.

Knowledge of:

  • Principles, practices and methods of social work/counseling practice.
  • Grief and loss and overall bereavement care provision that includes assessment, case management, crisis intervention, supportive counseling, advocacy, interpersonal communication and family dynamics.

Skilled at:

  • Carrying out social work or counseling practice with various modalities and populations.
  • Ability to manage time most effectively to meet client needs while working autonomously and proactively.
